Is is normal of me to think all my hard work in high school was a waste?

I worked so hard; I joined so many clubs; I took the "nerdy" path in high school. I got into the schools I wanted to: Emory, Duke, and NYU. However due to financial/personal situation (Read: my dad got another women pregnant) I can't go to these schools cause my parents don't have that type of money to spend on my college like they promised. I got C's in middle school, but when I started high school my parents promised to send to anywhere I wanted (they would pay for it) so I started being the studious type. Now because of my dad's screw up; they can't pay. Also because of their high EFC (around 100,000), I don't qualify for any financial aid. So, I'm stuck at the local state college which I would have gotten into with a lot less effort on my part. I guess you can say I wouldn't have made their honors program ( honors program stats are like emory's, the rest of the college...eh very mediocre), but honestly, no one cares if you are part of the honors program or not. I could have screwed around in high school if this was all I was going to get.
