Moving to Atlanta with a 2year old. What are some nice, affordable areas?

I am considering moving to Atlanta and possibly applying to Emory for graduate school (after 1 year of residency). I have a two year old son and I would like to know which areas are nice and affordable for young professionals with families. I would prefer to rent, my budget is between $800-$1000 monthly and I would like to be in a good school district. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.
