Can plastic baby bottle sterilize by boiling it in boiling water ?

i know this maybe a silly question but i'm a first time mom, but can plastic baby bottle sterilize by boiling it in boiling water ? won't it melt ? and how long it should be in the water? my mom convince me that the best way to sterilize it , is by boiling it ,that way the germ will definitely die.
